On October 24th, 2015, Strategy Forum on Disciplinary Development was held in Mulan Chu Chao Building in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the restoration of SJTU’s Department of Civil Engineering.

Department of Civil Engineering of SJTU, which was derived from the junior college class of railroad engineering, is accredited as China’s incipient vanguard in the domain of engineering.  Thanks to the reform and opening-up policy, SJTU’s Department of Civil Engineering was reinstated and rejuvenated in the 1980s. In the wake of the increasinggrowth of its domestic and international status, SJTU’s Department of Civil Engineering has maintained the world top 100 in the chart of QS World University Rankings for four years on end. In 2015, itleaped to the 29th amongst the competent counterparts all around the world.

In the midst of the forum, Mr. Huang Jinzhi, former head of department, donated 2.05 million to finance the construction of theengineering laboratory.The alumni and alumnae who are now working in Shanghai collectively donated CNY 2 million to set up the development funding which can be used to sponsor the disciplinary development, teacher cultivation, student education and academic exchange. The alumni and alumnae who graduated from Department of Civil Engineering in 1995 donated CNY 75,000 to help the undergraduatesbe reimbursed for their trips between hometown and university during winter and summer holidays.
